The story begins on a stormy night in the heart of a city. The streetlights are out, casting the area in darkness, with only occasional flashes of lightning illuminating two figures locked in a brutal fight. They are on the roof of a crumbling water tank, each blow driven by years of hatred. The tank is on the verge of collapse, but neither man, Bhaskar and Arjun, relents.
As the tank begins to give way, Bhaskar, already mortally wounded, seizes a chance to end their feud in a manner Arjun could never have foreseen. Amidst the falling debris and chaos, Bhaskar uses his last bit of strength to shield Arjun from the collapsing structure. With his dying breaths, Bhaskar looks into Arjun’s eyes and utters his final words: “My work is done here. Live and know – it was I who gave you the curse of life. Breathe every moment and hate your soul – hate it because you never caught up to me. In life and afterlife, you will never know the reality. NEVER!”
Bhaskar’s final breath escapes, and he dies.
Arjun is left stunned and conflicted by Bhaskar’s actions. He must now navigate his daily life grappling with the weight of his nemesis’s final words, which remain vivid in his mind. Each breath reminds him of the man who saved him, the man who was trying to kill him, the man he hated and fought against for so long. As Arjun continues his secret work as a private detective, he finds himself haunted by Bhaskar’s memory, struggling to reconcile the act of mercy with the years of pain and suffering Bhaskar caused. He constantly questions why Bhaskar showed mercy at the end, someone he would have gladly killed himself.
Throughout his life, Arjun faces the regular struggles of life: the constant pressure of being a provider, managing his secret life as a private detective, dealing with cases involving family breakdowns, money issues, bad parenting, childhood traumas, social media pressures, and more. The emotional toll of balancing work and family while trying to be a pillar of support weighs heavily on him. His attempts to find moments of peace and his pursuit of justice are all influenced by the complex legacy Bhaskar left behind.
As Arjun navigates the city, now without a nemesis, he starts to reflect on life and its events. In the end, Arjun learns that the true battle is not against external enemies but within himself. He realizes he must find a way to forgive, understand the complexities of human nature, and continue his pursuit for a better world despite the shadows of his past. He begins visiting a children’s daycare center to understand the essence of humanity, believing that study and worldly experience often corrupt the mind.
Twenty years later, Arjun still remembers Bhaskar and his words. One day, he meets a girl who resembles Bhaskar. He learns she is Bhaskar’s illegitimate daughter and notices she has not had a proper childhood. Smiling, he gives her his card and says, “I was close to your father. If you ever need my help, call me.” She walks away with a smile.
Suddenly, a sense of clarity hits Arjun. He believes he might understand his nemesis through his daughter and, in doing so, find himself. He aims to help the girl carve out a place in society, seeing it as a way to take his revenge by reversing Bhaskar’s deeds. This becomes his path to closure.
Arjun returns to the place where he last met Bhaskar. As the sun rises, he feels a new sense of resolve and a deeper understanding of different perspectives.
